The caldera of the Nemrut volcano, which is located on the western shore of Lake Van in Eastern Anatolia, is one of the most important wetlands in Bitlis province and a part of an active stratovolcano with a distinctive structural morphology in Turkey. The eastern side of the caldera is covered in pyroclastic material from lava domes, flows, and maar-like explosion craters.
The western portion is filled with a freshwater lake, a tiny lake with hot springs, and other little temporary lakes. The largest lake, Lake Nemrut, has a half-moon shape, an average depth of 100 metres, and drinkable, colourless, odourless water.
Postcard-like images of frozen lakes at the top of the Nemrut Caldera were taken at a height of 2,948 metres above sea level in the Bitlis neighbourhood of Tatvan.
♦ 2 Days Cappadocia Tour From Istanbul
Days of chilly weather have been experienced in the Nemrut Caldera, which has won the excellence award and annually invites thousands of domestic and foreign visitors. In contrast to Kalp Lake, one of the lovely lakes of Nemrut Caldera, one of the tourist destinations of Tatvan district with natural beauties and resembling a heart in appearance, Ilgöl, whose water temperature reaches 40 degrees even in winter, is now mostly covered with ice as a result of the cold weather.
In the region where the air temperature fell to 15 degrees below zero, an ice mass about 10 centimetres thick formed on the surface of the lakes, and the view the clouds produced by reflecting on the ice was fascinating. The beautiful scene that resulted was observed from above.
“We took advantage of today with friends and made it to the summit of Nemrut Crater Mountain,” said Hakan Okay. We arrived to Mount Nemrut’s summit to witness the grandeur of the frozen Heart Lake. A frozen lake formerly stood here.
We came to see the amazing beauty of Heart Lake. It looks just amazing. It has a completely frozen surface. It’s a great thrill to see a place that we actually enter and swim in during the summer frozen. On it, we are both walking and skiing.
According to Mücahit Tarban, they snapped images on the frozen lake:
“With friends, we travelled here to see the lake, skate on it, and take pictures. We had a great time here on this particular occasion, and we want to come again soon.”
